Real Harrisburg Tesla Before/After

Three Teslas in three weeks last spring — a Pearl White Model Y from Mechanicsburg, a Stealth Grey Model 3 Performance from Camp Hill, and a brand-new Cybertruck from Hershey. Three completely different starting points, three completely different protection plans. Here's what each one looked like coming in, what we did, and what they look like now.

What you'll learn in this post

  • How three real Teslas with different driving patterns ended up with different protection plans
  • The actual decision-making behind each tier choice
  • What the work cost and how long it took
  • How each car has held up since (3 months, 6 months, and 9 months later)

Case 1: 2024 Pearl White Model Y — Mechanicsburg

Customer profile: 38-year-old project manager, 14k miles, daily commute from Mechanicsburg to downtown Harrisburg via the West Shore. About 24 daily miles, mostly highway, garage-parked overnight. Car was 11 months old when she brought it in.

The state when it arrived

The car looked good from a distance. Up close: heavy bonded contamination on the leading hood and front fenders (rock chips through clear coat in seven spots), no protection of any kind, factory ceramic faded after one Pennsylvania winter, water sheeted across the hood when we tested. Brake dust crust on the wheels especially behind the front pair. Pollen embedded in the gloss black trim around the door handles.

What we recommended

Track Pack PPF (front bumper, full hood, fenders, mirrors, A-pillars, rockers) plus a 5-year ceramic over the entire car including the PPF, plus ceramic tint at 70% front / 30% rear. Total package $5,400. We did NOT recommend full-body PPF — the rear panels see almost no impact on her commute and the math didn't favor it.

What we did

Day 1: Full decontamination wash including iron remover (lots of purple), polymer mitt clay decon on every panel, and a single-stage paint correction to remove the seven rock-chip-related fissures and the wash marring in the door cup areas. Day 2: PPF install on the Track Pack panels. Day 3: Ceramic application over the entire car. Day 4: Window tint. Total in-bay time: 4 days.

9 months later

Came back in for a Spring Refresh. Bead test on the hood: tight tall beads, ceramic alive. PPF condition: clean, no edge lift, no yellowing. Wheels still rinse clean with a hose. The leading bumper has visible rock-strike marks ON the PPF — exactly what the film is supposed to take. Paint underneath is untouched. Customer texted us a photo from a parking lot the week before pickup with the line: "still looks new." That's the deliverable.

Case 2: 2023 Stealth Grey Model 3 Performance — Camp Hill

Customer profile: 45-year-old engineer, 31k miles, daily commute from Camp Hill to a job in Carlisle on I-81. About 56 daily miles, almost entirely highway, driveway-parked. Car was 18 months old when he brought it in.

The state when it arrived

This car had taken a beating. Twenty-plus rock chips through clear coat on the front bumper, leading hood scarred with fine chips, both front fenders showing impact damage near the wheel wells, headlights pitted from sand and small debris. Wheels had heavy brake dust burned into the finish. Stealth Grey paint showed visible UV oxidation on the upper surfaces (roof, rear quarters above the wheels). No protection whatsoever; owner had been planning to "wait until I had time" for two years.

What we recommended

Full-body PPF (every panel, 8 mil on impact zones, 6 mil elsewhere), 5-year ceramic over the PPF, ceramic tint at 70% front / 20% rear. Total package $9,200. Higher than Case 1 because the daily mileage and driveway parking on a chip-prone color justified the difference.

What we did

Day 1: Aggressive decontamination plus a two-stage paint correction. The chips needed to be addressed before PPF went on — film over damaged paint locks the damage in. Days 2 and 3: Full-body PPF install. Day 4: Ceramic application. Day 5: Window tint. Total in-bay time: 5 days.

6 months later

Customer brought it back for the Spring Refresh and a Track Pack inspection. Coming through 56 daily highway miles with full-body PPF was the right call — the bumper PPF is taking new strikes weekly, the hood PPF has visible chips on the film itself, and the paint underneath is pristine. Without PPF this car would have needed another paint correction by now. With it, the maintenance is purely surface decon every spring.

Case 3: 2024 Cybertruck — Hershey

Customer profile: 52-year-old physician, 4k miles, picked up the truck in February, daily commute from Hershey to Harrisburg about 22 miles each way, garage-parked, intends to keep the truck 8+ years. Walked into our bay three weeks after taking delivery.

The state when it arrived

Almost factory-perfect. The Cybertruck challenge isn't pre-existing damage — it's that the bare stainless steel skin shows fingerprints, water spots, and contact marks dramatically. Owner said his neighbor had already left a small handprint smudge on the door panel that he couldn't get off with quick detailer.

What we recommended

Full-body PPF on every painted-equivalent panel — the stainless skin takes PPF just like paint, and we use Xilefilms CLEAR-X with a Cybertruck-specific application protocol — plus ceramic over the PPF, plus ceramic tint on the windows. We did NOT recommend wax or any traditional finish work — the Cybertruck stainless responds differently to protection than painted panels. Total package $11,800.

What we did

Day 1: Full decontamination of the stainless panels (different chemistry than painted decon — pH-neutral throughout, no acid wash on bare stainless). Days 2, 3, and 4: Full-body PPF install. The Cybertruck's flat panels are actually easier to wrap than rounded body lines, but the size of each panel adds time. Day 5: Ceramic application. Day 6: Window tint. Total in-bay time: 6 days.

3 months later

The customer texted us a photo from Hersheypark parking lot with the line "I literally don't have to think about this truck." That's the value proposition — for Cybertruck specifically, full-body PPF transforms the ownership experience from "I need to be careful with this thing" to "this thing is bulletproof." The stainless underneath is being protected from contact, water spots, and contamination. The ceramic over the PPF means a pressure wash gets it dead clean.

The lessons from three cars

Three different cars, three different protection plans, three correct answers:

  • Track Pack worked for the Model Y because the daily commute and garage parking made the rear-panel exposure minimal.
  • Full body worked for the Model 3 Performance because the high-mileage I-81 commute and driveway parking justified the extra coverage.
  • Full body worked for the Cybertruck for completely different reasons — the stainless skin's vulnerability to surface contamination, not impact.

The right answer depends on the car, the driving, and the owner. We don't sell packages — we recommend setups based on what each Tesla actually needs. The full decision walkthrough is in our Tesla paint protection in Central PA guide and the configuration comparison in PPF vs ceramic coating.

What about multi-Tesla households?

A growing number of our Hershey and Mechanicsburg customers have two (or three) Teslas in the family. Multi-vehicle bundles get real pricing breaks because we can sequence the work efficiently across multiple appointments. The economics are laid out in family EV protection bundles.

Three patterns we see across our Tesla customer base

After hundreds of Tesla installs across Central PA, three customer patterns emerge consistently:

  • The "fresh delivery" customer: Books protection in the first 30 days of ownership. Ideal scenario — paint is perfect, no correction needed, PPF goes on flawless. Roughly 40% of our Tesla customers fit this pattern. Usually started by reading our Tesla paint protection in Central PA guide before delivery.
  • The "first-spring panic" customer: Drove the car through one Pennsylvania winter, came out the other side seeing visible damage, books protection immediately. About 35% of our customers. Usually requires a paint correction step before PPF or coating goes on, which adds a day to the appointment but produces excellent results.
  • The "lease end / trade" customer: Booking protection or detailing as part of preparing the car for sale or end-of-lease return. About 15% of our work. The math here is purely about avoiding lease-end damage charges or maximizing private-party sale price — both demonstrably real benefits.

The remaining 10% are referrals, fleet work, or customers who fall outside the typical patterns. Across all five categories, the consistent observation is that the customers who research the protection options before booking — by reading our blog hub or talking to existing customers — end up with installs they're happy with for years. The customers who shop on price alone are the ones who often end up redoing work in 2–3 years.

Wrap-up

Three real Central PA Teslas, three different protection plans, all three customers happy 3 to 9 months later. The pattern across all of them: take the time to assess the actual driving and parking pattern, recommend the right tier (not the most expensive), do the prep right, and the long-term result is a Tesla that genuinely looks better at year 5 than the same Tesla without protection looks at year 1.

If you want us to look at your Tesla and tell you straight what the right plan is, come see us. We don't quote without seeing the car and we don't recommend tiers you don't need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have customer references in the Harrisburg area?
Yes — we'll connect you with current customers if you ask. Most of our Tesla customers come from referrals, and they're happy to talk about their experience. We also have hundreds of public Google reviews and Facebook reviews you can check independently.
How long do you need a Tesla in your bay for a typical full protection package?
Track Pack PPF + ceramic + tint: 4 days. Full body PPF + ceramic + tint: 5–6 days. We schedule appointments by week, not by day, because rushing the install is how problems show up later. We provide a loaner option for some packages.
Can you protect a Cybertruck the same way as a regular Tesla?
Yes, with adjusted process. The stainless steel skin takes PPF just like paint — we install Xilefilms CLEAR-X using a Cybertruck-specific application protocol — and the rest of the workflow (ceramic, tint) is similar to other Tesla models. The decontamination chemistry is pH-neutral throughout because acid washes can affect bare stainless.
How do you decide what level of protection to recommend for a customer?
We look at three things: daily mileage and route, parking situation (garage vs driveway vs street), and how long the owner plans to keep the vehicle. Highway commuters need more PPF than city drivers. Garage parking reduces UV and chemical exposure. Long-term owners benefit more from full coverage because protection costs amortize over more years of ownership.
Will you talk customers out of work if they don't need it?
Yes — and we do regularly. Most-recent example: a Model 3 owner from Hummelstown asked us to quote full-body PPF and we recommended Track Pack instead, saving him about $4,200. We'd rather have a customer for ten years than a one-time sale that ends in regret. Honest assessments are good business.
